work in progress
last update: 5.26.21You can verify if your camera is compatible with IllumiShot prior to registering the software. Download and install IllumiShot, then go to the CAMERA tab and enter the HTTP URL to your camera's still image or snapshot feature. If your camera uses basic authentication then include the username and password as parameters in the HTTP URL using the format your camera expects. If your camera uses digest authentication then check the USE DIGEST AUTH option and enter your username and password in the provided fields. Uncheck the DEMO MODE option and click SAVE CAMERA SETTINGS, you should then see a SUCCESS message at the top of the screen. Clicking REFRESH TARGET should now load the image from your camera on to the main stage. (See the USAGE section of this manual for troubleshooting tips) Registering IllumiShot unlocks shot detection.
Paper targets with a simple, one color design work the best. Avoid targets that have small text or numbers printed in the target areas. The IllumiShot Software contains four targets you can print and use. These targets are not required to use but make great examples of the type of simple targets to use.
This is hands down the most important aspect that will affect the software. The target must be mounted on a target backer in such a way that it lays flat on the backer with no lumps and is prevented from flapping around in the breeze. We find it best to use staples / tape to attach a paper target to a cardboard backer. We apply one staple / tape to each of the four corners starting with the top two corners and flatting the target downward as we fasten the bottom corners. The target should be flat against the backer.

-Wobbly target frames are bad.
-Make sure the frame is anchored solid and does not sway with the wind.
-Do not use backers that have large areas shot out.
-Applying double sided tape to the back of the target, in the center, will increase target lifespan.
At the CAMERA tab enter the HTTP URL for your camera's still image or snapshot feature. If your camera uses basic authentication then include the username and password as parameters in the HTTP URL using the format your camera expects. If your camera uses digest authentication then check the USE DIGEST AUTH option and enter your username and password in the provided fields. A camera that is accessible via HTTP protocol to the device running IllumiShot Target Marking Software and can provide a still image will work. Basic authentication via URL and Digest authentication(beta) are supported. The software will self adjust and support image resolutions 800x600 or greater. Supported image formats include JPEG/PNG data blob or JPEG/PNG image embedded in HTML.
If you can get a still image from your camera in your browser then the camera should work with IllumiShot. But don't take our word for it, test connect for yourself before registering the software.
This is hands down the other most important aspect that will affect the software. The camera must be solidly mounted and not allowed to be moved by wind gusts. If using a tripod it is recommended to use a sandbag or such to add extra stability to the tripod.
-Wobbly camera tripods are bad.
-Make sure the camera is focused on the target and that the target fills as much of the view as possible.
-Don't shoot the camera! Set the camera slightly off to the side of the line of fire.
-The longer the focal length of the camera lens the farther it can sit from the target.
-Use "Aim Camera Mode" to simplify camera set-up.
It is important to define the active area of your target. This area should include only the area of the target being shot at. It can be defined by dragging a finger or mouse across the screen in a diagonal motion to set the desired position, width and height. Try to avoid things like small print or target paper edges in the active area. The area can be modified at any time and is represented by a thin black line on the target.
New shot markers are drawn by alternating two colors, the default is red and blue. These colors can be changed in the OPTIONS tab.
When this option is enabled the CREATE ZONE button appears at the bottom of the screen. Click it and the ADD SCORE ZONE dialog will appear. You can set the point value, color and basic shape of the score zone. Drag your finger or mouse across the screen to set the position and size of the zone. At this time the zone now has a movement handle. Drag this handle to fine adjust the position of the zone. When you are complete click CREATE and a new zone will be created and rendered over your target image. Any bullets within this zone will add points to the score tally in the upper right corner. You can continue to create additional zones and they will stack from bottom to top, meaning create your largest zones first and go progressively towards your smallest.
Due to the wide variance in GPS accuracy across different devices it is recommend to enter a known distance manually by tapping or clicking on the light blue area toward the bottom of the STATISTICS tab.
Causes new shots to flash on the target. This mode disables shot finding and tracking and is best used on poorly mounted targets or with extremely low velocity projectiles such as BBs or pellets that don't make clean holes.
Allows adjustment of the shot detection sensitivity. The default setting "Medium" is the best for typical situations.
Choose between outlining new shots or placing chip markers on top of them.
Adjust the blue measurement line to represent 1 inch on your target, as seen from your display. All calculations are based on this scale. Use the drop menu to change from inches to centimeters.
Take a moment and familiarize yourself with how IllumiShot works before heading out to the range. Use the demo mode to try different features and get a feel for the software. Tape a target to the wall and practice setting up your camera so you know what to do before you get out on the range.
If a long period of time has elapsed between groups it is a good idea to refresh the target first by tapping the "Refresh Target" button. This step helps to avoid any false detections that may occur due to changes in the environment.
Don't be stupid. Put your weapon down before interacting with your device.
Clicking on any detected shot will cause a SHOT INFO dialog about that shot to appear. If you want to remove a shot for any reason you can click the REMOVE THIS SHOT button within the SHOT INFO dialog.
In the OPTIONS tab you will find the SAVE TARGET IMAGE button. Clicking this button will save the target image with all markers and generated markups to your photo gallery.
In the OPTIONS tab you will find the PRINT TARGET DATA button. Clicking this button will open your device's print dialog and populate it with statistics about all the recorded shots for that session. You can then connect to a printer or save as a .PDF file.
-Wobbly target frames are bad.
-Wobbly camera tripods are bad.
-If you're having trouble connecting to your camera DOUBLE CHECK all of your settings. Look online for the correct HTTP URL to use for your camera model. You can try the url in your web browser to confirm it is correct. Make sure you are on the same network as the camera.
-If adjusting PTZ of the camera through another program click REFRESH TARGET after adjusting and before shooting.
